Mr. De Wever states in a recent article in De Standaard (19/3) that the Antwerp residents he speaks have never asked him why there are cameras in their neighborhood, but they have asked why there are no cameras yet. This statement is not consistent with findings from a study we conducted into the experience of public space and in which we entered into discussions with young people from the Seefhoek district. De Hangmakers gelanceerd met een knal

09 mei, 2024

Thursday March 14, 2024, 11:28 am. The plenary room of the provincial training center in Malle is gradually filling up. The two-day Bataljong training is now running at cruising speed and in a few minutes the brand new project De Hangmakers will be launched. 230 youth officials from all over the world – from Koksijde to Riemst and from Essen to Halle – are preparing for a sofa discussion about teenagers and young people who hang out in public spaces. About 30 partner organizations and youth aldermen who just participated in a networking reception will join us.

A powerful video introduces the panel discussion. Teenagers and young people respond to questions such as “what does the word loiterer evoke in you?” or “what does it do to you when they call you a loiterer?”.

Ga mee op pad!

29 mrt, 2024

January 23, 2024 – a typical Tuesday, you would think. But not for De Hangmakers. Our webinar ‘a plea for loitering’ kicked off a year for loitering. We delved into the concepts of ‘hanging out’ and ‘public space’, we explored why it is so important for teenagers and young people to be able to hang out and we investigated why this does not always seem to be so obvious. We concluded with some tools and tips ‘à la carte’.
To this end, Bataljong and Netwerk Jeugdvrienden – together with many diverse partners – join forces.
